We were very excited to see the new HQ camera announcement from the Raspberry Pi Foundation last week. The first we did was purchase one from Chicago Electronic Distributors along with both the wide angle and telephoto lenses. After connecting everything together and verifying operation, we became concerned about the delicate ribbon cable that connects the camera to the RPi. So we designed and printed a simple HAT-sized plate that mounts the camera to the back of the RPi:
The STL file along with printing instructions can be found at Thingverse. Once completed we used eight M2.5 X 6 screws and eight M2.5 8mm threaded standoffs to assemble everything. Here's what ours looked like when mounted to a Raspberry Pi 3 Model A+:
Note how this arrangement makes the 1/4-20 tripod mount as well as everything on the RPi accessible. The plate was designed using TinkerCAD and can be accessed here if you you want to modify it for your application.
