Did the Maker Movement peak in the last few years? I'm basing this on the fact that my local Makerspace has pretty much disbanded. And, it seems like Maker Faires are on the decline except in the bay area and New York. Was it a fad? Did people find making harder / more expensive / less satisfying and/or more time consuming than they expected? Or has the maker movement evolved into more specialized movements like the single board computers, 3D printing, metalwork, sewing, and woodworking to name a few?
I can tell you here in Boulder & Longmont, CO the makerspace (called TinkerMill) is only getting bigger & expanding...700 members & growing
(tinkermill.org)
laser cutter, sewing, metalshop, welding, pottery...the list goes on!
Spent 7 years working at HP in Loveland the 80's. I sure miss those summers.
